2014 Registration Opens 2/1/14!

CRSSRaceforHope3photoBriansBelieversWelcome to the 6th year of the Capital Region Special Surgery (CRSS) Race for Hope open to ALL ages and ALL abilities! You can REGISTER and DONATE for this year’s 5K to be held on Saturday, September 27, 2014@ 10am. $20 per person for  teams of 10 or more!  Kids 12 and under are also only $15!  

All  dollars from entry fees and fundraising go to our grant-making fund (open to qualified organizations/programs in all 12 Capital Region counties) at the Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region.  And be sure to check if your company does Corporate Matching for donations!

The major goal of the Capital Region Special Surgery Race For Hope Fund is to make grants to nonprofit organizations and programs serving uninsured and underinsured patients who are experiencing financial hardship related to a brain, head or neck cancer in the Capital Region.

RECORD FIELD!

Thrilled to report with just under 2 days to go we are already looking at a record field of over 550 runners and walkers AND the registrations are still coming in!  YAY!

What is most exciting about this is that each one of those registrations = 100% donation so it is truly a WIN-WIN!

Thank you so much to everyone who has committed to joining us on Saturday!  It is truly a TEAM EFFORT!

… and the fantastic anticipated weather is no small wonder either so another big shout out to MOTHER NATURE!

2013 CRSS Race for Hope Fund Recipients!

CAPITAL REGION SPECIAL SURGERY RACE FOR HOPE FUND AWARDS ALMOST $40,000 IN GRANTS TO 3 AREA HOSPITALS PLUS RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE

June 3, 2013, Slingerlands, NY -Grant funds ranging from $8,000 to $10,000 were given to C.R. Wood Cancer Center at Glens Falls Hospital, Ellis Hospital Foundation, Inc., Ronal McDonald House Charities and Saratoga Hospital—Mollie Wilmot Radiation Oncology Center.  Funding came from money raised through the CRSS Race for Hope fund.

Since 2009, Capital Region Special Surgery has raised more than $175,000 to provide grant funding to help uninsured or under-insured Capital Region patients affected by brain, neck and head cancer. CRSS raises money for the Race for Hope Fund through annual 5K races, with all overhead and administrative costs covered by CRSS.

“In 2009, recognizing an increasing need for patient and family support services, we established the Capital Region Special Surgery Race for Hope Fund,” explains Dr. Edward Scheid Jr., MD, president of Capital Region Special Surgery.  “This fund provides financial support for a variety of support programs and services focusing on improving the patients’ physical and emotional needs during treatment for brain, head and neck cancer.”

“We’re proud to work with Capital Region Special Surgery’s Race for Hope Fund by providing careful stewardship of grant funds and assistance with selecting recipient organizations,” said Karen Bilowith, President and CEO for the Community Foundation. “Through this partnership, we help ensure that grants are not only made to have the greatest impact possible, but also that funds are maintained in order to be available well into the future.”

This year marks the 5th year that Capital Region Special Surgery will be hosting their Race for Hope.  The 5K run/walk will take place on Saturday, September 28, 2013.  Registration is currently open as well as opportunities for corporate teams/sponsorship and on-site vendors.  Contact Race Director, SarahNicole Mahoney at 518-441-8570 or smahoney@capitalregionspecialsurgery.com.
